How do I know if my child is ready to be a Little Learner?

For most of our Little Learners, we are their first experience with a drop off program! Before your child is fully enrolled in our program, we require both a tour and one FREE trial day to be sure we are a good fit. The trial day includes a full morning with our play school and is a great way for your child to get to know our staff, and routine. 

Here are some signs that your child may be ready for a drop off program:

-Your child is fairly independent or shows interest in learning to be independent

-Able to be separated from parent(s) easily or able to calm down within 15 minutes

-Can handle transitions from one activity to another. Example, putting away toys when it is time to eat lunch

-Enjoys group activities and interacting with peers appropriately.

-Follows simple one or two step directions. 

Here are some signs that your child is NOT ready for a drop off program, yet; and how you can prepare them!

-They have trouble separating from you. We suggest starting out with a babysitter in your home for one to two hours to help your child build trust in other adults. Staying in home can provide familiarity and not be as overwhelming when they're in a new environment, like school.

-Have trouble following one or two step directions. We suggest making following directions fun, try games like Simon says to help your child understand following directions. 

-They're easily overwhelmed. While our play school is peaceful, it can be lively with excited friends. We suggest participating in our parent and child events so your child can be easily comforted by you should they become overwhelmed. 

-They don't handle age-appropriate conflict well. It is typical for preschoolers to struggle with sharing, taking turns, and even hitting. We expect that in time, Little Learners adjust to our classroom culture of kindness, handling conflict with words, and teacher guidance. Play dates are a great way to help prepare your child for the social interactions they will have with other Little Learners. 

-They still have a morning nap. If your child still needs a mid-morning nap, our program may be overwhelming for them. We are happy to offer an adjusted schedule to our Little Learners under the age of 24 months who need to leave early for a nap as we cannot offer them. Please inquire within regarding this policy. 

-They can't communicate clearly.  A child doesn't have to be a chatterbox to succeed at our play school, but they should ideally be able to express their needs, either through words or signs. We find that most of our Little Learners quickly develop language once interacting with our staff and friends. If you have concerns about your child's communication skills, we encourage you to discuss this with your pediatrician.

$100 registration fee is due at time of enrollment.

Daily Schedule

8:30 - Arrival and free play in the gym

9:00 - Clean up and snack (provided by parents)

9:30 - Enrichment activity (science, sensory, music, art, or movement)

10:00 - Outdoor play

11:00 - Lunch (provided by parents)

11:30- Gross motor play in the gym

12:30 - Departure
